\'Dogs Drop 4-3 Shootout Decision to Amerks

Rochester, NY - Clarke MacArthur scored two goals and added an assist as the Rochester Americans defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Amerks opened the scoring on the power play at 6:14 of the first period when defenceman Doug Janik potted his third goal of the season. Janik received a pass from Michael Ryan and fired a high shot from the top of the face-off circle past Danis' blocker.

Hamilton forward Brad Winchester evened the score at 1-1 at the 2:40 mark of the second period while the ‘Dogs were on the power play. Winchester slid a backhand shot past Leighton after receiving a pass from forward Marc-Antoine Pouliot.

Rochester forward Clark MacArthur restored the Amerks lead at the 6:18 mark of the second period while the Amerks were on the man advantage. After Danis stopped initial shots from Janik and Ryan, MacArthur banged home the rebound while standing at the crease for his second point of the night.

Bulldogs forward Duncan Milroy notched his 12th goal of the season at the 16:34 mark of the second period while Hamilton was on the power play. After Leighton made the initial save on Pouliot, Milroy chipped the rebound over the Amerks netminder to even the score at 2-2.

Hamilton forward Michael Lambert gave the ‘Dogs their first lead of the night just 23 seconds into the third period. Lambert skated in alone shorthanded and beat Leighton through the legs with a wrist shot.

Clarke MacArthur scored his second goal of the night to knot the game up at 3-3. MacArthur got in behind the Hamilton defence and received a pass from Chris Thorburn before deking past Danis. MacArthur finished the contest with three points (2g, 1a), and was named the game's first star.

Rochester outshot Hamilton 2-1 in a scoreless overtime period. In the shootout, Rochester scored on their first two attempts as Kamil Kreps and Clarke MacArthur both beat Danis. Marc-Antoine Pouliot was the lone Hamilton shooter to beat Leighton.

Danis stopped 34 of the 37 shots he faced, while Leighton made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Hamilton was 2 for 8 on the power play while Rochester went 2for 5.

Hamilton's next game will take place on Saturday, February 11th when they host the Portland Pirates in the 10th Annual ‘TD Canada Trust Smiles on Ice Game' in support of McMaster Children's Hospital.
