Hershey Bears News Release

A heroic defensive effort with five players recalled to Washington earlier in the day and seven players out of the lineup due to injury turns into a 1-0 win for HERSHEY Friday night in northeast PA.

HERSHEY took a 1-0 lead at the 3:09 mark of the first period when Tomas Fleischmann picked off a pass at the Wilkes-Barre blue line and beat Pens goaltender Dany Sabourin low to the left side. The BEARS were outshot 10-7 in the first period, but did a nice job defensively in front of Frederic Cassivi, who stopped all ten shots he saw in the first twenty minutes. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Ryan Stone drew a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a boarding call late in the first to give HERSHEY a major power play.

HERSHEY began the second period by firing two shots on the power play against Sabourin but could not score. The Penguins would receive a five-on-three power play late in the second period but could not cash in. The BEARS outshot the Penguins 11-4 in the second to take a 1-0 lead into the dressing room at second intermission. Wilkes-Barre would manage to fire nine shots at Cassivi in the third period, but could not score.

Cassivi earned his second shutout of the season and was named the game's number one star. Fleischmann's goal would earn him number two star honors.

The BEARS play at home Saturday night against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
