Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- Scott Barney scored two goals, including the game-winner, as he led the Chicago Wolves to a 5-3 win over the Barons on Friday night. Mike Iggulden registered a goal and an assist for Cleveland in the losing effort.

The teams exchanged goals in a tightly contested opening period. Chicago struck first with Justin Morrison jamming home his 8th goal of the season on a goal mouth scramble at the 15:53 mark. The Barons answered with a rebound goal of their own from Mike Iggulden, his 14th of the year with 2:13 remaining. Both teams managed 10 shots-on-goal in the period.

The Barons earned their first lead of the night in the second period but it was short-lived as they trailed Chicago 4-2 after forty minutes. Patrick Rissmiller's power play strike gave the Barons a 2-1 lead at the 6:43 mark of the middle frame, his 15th goal of the year. Just 21-seconds later Chicago answered to tie the game at 2-2 on a slap shot goal from Mark Popovic. Ramzi Abid's team leading 25th goal of the year re-established the Wolves one-goal lead at 3-2 just 60-seconds before Scott Barney's 13th goal of the year extended the advantage for Chicago to 4-2.

The Barons come-from-behind bid fell short once again as the teams exchanged goals in the third period. Garrett Stafford scored his 10th of the year on assists from Iggulden and Hennessy at the 10:54 mark to trim the lead down to a single goal. Barney, who was credited with the game-winning goal, stuffed home the insurance tally with just 2:10 remaining in regulation play.

The Barons nine-game home stand comes to a close next week with games on Wednesday and Thursday night against divisional leaders. Wednesday night the Barons host the West Division leading Houston Aeros before welcoming the North Division's top team, Grand Rapids, on Thursday. Both games begin at 7 O'Clock and tickets are on sale now at the Q Box Office.
