BINGHAMTON, NY - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-1 on the road to the Binghamton Senators Friday.

Binghamton took the first lead of the game on a fluke play as the puck skipped off the boards and into the slot on a dump-in. Sound Tigers Goaltender Dieter Kochan had gone behind his net to play the puck but could only watch helplessly as Antoine Vermette tucked the loose puck into the empty cage for his ninth goal of the season 9:07 into the first period. Anton Volchenkov and Jesse Fibiger earned assists on the play.

The Senators nearly made it 2-0 with just over a minute left in the opening frame, but Sound Tigers Defenseman Chris Campoli fished a shot out of the goal crease and flipped the puck to center ice.

Brandon Bochenski, who stuffed a point-blank-range shot off the post late in the first period, doubled Binghamton's lead with his 11th goal of the season, on the power play, off an assist from Jason Spezza 7:22 into the middle frame, but the Sound Tigers pulled to within 2-1 on Kevin Colley's sixth goal of the season ten seconds shy of the mid-point of the game off an assist from Captain Richard Seeley who was returning to the ice after missing two games with a bad back.

The Senators put the game out of reach with three quick goals early in the third period. Chris Kelly made it 3-1 with his seventh of the year, on the power play, one minute in off assists from Volchenkov and Vermette and 4-1 with his second of the game and eighth of the year 1:12 later off assists from Charlie Stephens and Josh Langfeld. Langfeld then finished the scoring at 5-1 with his seventh of the season off assists from Vermette and Brian Pothier 1:26 after Kelly's second tally.

Binghamton Netminder Ray Emery was the first star of the game with 38 saves as the Sound Tigers had a shots-on-goal advantage of 39-38. Kelly was the second star. Vermette was the third. The Senators were 2 for 4 on the power play and 3 for 3 on the penalty kill.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Portland Pirates tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. They will open a four-game home-stand this Monday, December 20th when they host the Worcester IceCats at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
