Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Barons announced today the signing of right wing Mike Hoffman to a standard AHL player contract. Wayne Thomas, General Manager of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.

Mike Hoffman, 24, began the season with the Barons on a professional try-out agreement. In 22 games this season, Hoffman has recorded two assists. His 76 penalty minutes lead the team as do his 11 major penalties. Those 11 major penalties rank second among all AHL rookies.

The 6-6, 245-pound forward split the 2003-04 season between the Worcester IceCats and the Peoria Rivermen (ECHL). In 25 games with Peoria, Hoffman recorded 2 goals and 7 assists. He appeared in 15 games with Worcester totaling 20 penalty minutes. Prior to his professional experience, the Scituate, MA native played collegiate hockey with the University of Connecticut. In 31 collegiate games, Hoffman tallied two goals and eight assists.

"Mike Hoffman came in on a try-out basis and really lived up to the expectations that we set forth," stated Thomas. "He's been fearless in defending his teammates and it has gained him a great deal of respect in the locker room."

Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The Barons will host the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. at National City Rink located in Gund Arena. Friday is National City Bank Night with the Barons, as fans can purchase $16 tickets at a 2-for-1 special when presenting a National City Bank card at the Gund Arena Box Office.
