Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND â The Cleveland Barons announced today that their AHL contest against the Syracuse Crunch scheduled for March 27, 2005 in Syracuse will now be played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, on January 12, 2005 at 7pm. Nationwide Arena is home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Crunch's NHL affiliate. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.
The contest will mark the first of eight between the Barons and the Crunch this season. The schedule will now pit the Barons against the Crunch in three consecutive road games from January 12th to January 15th.
The Barons have a franchise record of 1-1-0-0 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. They defeated the Crunch 4-3 in their last contest at Nationwide Arena, on February 7, 2003. In their first contest at Nationwide Arena, the Barons lost to Syracuse 1-0 on February 17th, 2002.
The change will not affect any other games on the Barons schedule.
"Teams have noticed that NHL cities are hungry for hockey and we proved that when we moved our game to San Jose," stated Lehr. "When Syracuse approached us with this change, we really believed that it is the best of both worlds. It puts Barons Hockey on display to a nearby city that is thirsty for hockey and Syracuse is able to showcase the future of their organization to their fans."
Tickets are $12 and will go on sale this Saturday, December 18, at 10 a.m. at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, the three Chiller Ice Rinks (North, Dublin and Easton), all Ticketmaster ticket centers, by phone at (614) 431-3600 or on-line at www.BlueJackets.com and ticketmaster.com. Tickets for groups of 10 or more people are just $10, while special offers are also available to all registered youth and amateur hockey players.
The Barons will host the San Antonio Rampage on Friday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. at National City Rink located in Gund Arena. Friday is National City Bank Night with the Barons, as fans can purchase $16 tickets at a 2-for-1 special when presenting a National City Bank card at the Gund Arena Box Office.
