Bridgeport Islanders News Release

The Hartford Wolf Pack held off the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a 3-2 win before 5,025 fans at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Friday night. The Wolf Pack improved to 15-15-2-0 and the Sound Tigers dropped to 13-14-1-3.

For the fourth time in five meetings between the Connecticut rivals this season the game was decided by just one goal.

The Sound Tigers drew first blood when Jeff Tambellini re-directed a feed from Frans Nielsen for 1-0 first period lead just 4:51 into the game. Nielsen extended his point streak to seven games. Hartford reeled off three unanswered goals with Mark Lee, Dane Byers and Nigel Dawes all finding the back of the net. Dawes scored the Wolf Pack's second goal of the middle period for a 3-1 despite falling to the ice as he shot the puck from the slot.

Bridgeport's Mark Wotton scored his first goal of the season at 4:39 of the third period to pull the Sound Tigers within 3-2, but the Wolf Pack fended off Bridgeport's comeback effort.

The Wolf Pack outshot Bridgeport 33-22 as Wolf Pack goaltender Al Montoya got the best of his match-up with Sound Tiger goalie Michael Mole. Hartford was 0-for-3 on the power play and the Sound Tigers were 0-for-4 on the advantage.

The Sound Tigers visit Springfield on Saturday and return to the Arena to host the Albany River Rats on Sunday, New Year's Eve, at 3 p.m. For schedule and ticket information, including group discount opportunities, visit soundtigers.com or call 334-4625.
