Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Pierre Parenteau, Craig MacDonald and Carl Corazzini found instant chemistry on Friday night at Scope, with Corazzini netting the game-winner in the final minute of regulation to lift the Norfolk Admirals (23-7-4-1) to a 4-3 victory over the Lowell Devils (16-15-2-1).
After a scoreless opening period, the Admirals struck first 30 seconds into the second period when the heroes of Wednesday's game - the Adam Burish-Colin Fraser-Adam Berti line - found pay dirt again. Fraser collected a pass at the bottom of the slot and sent a shot in on Devils netminder Jordan Parise. Burish collected the rebound and sent it top shelf for a 1-0 Norfolk lead.
Lowell tied the game seven minutes later. Stephen Gionta sent a wraparound pass to Rod Pelley in the slot, and Pelley one-timed it past Admirals goaltender Corey Crawford to knot the score at 1-1 at the 7:37 mark.
Another one timer found the back of the net at 13:59 of the second period - this time for the Admirals. Captain MacDonald found Alternate Captain Corazzini at the left faceoff dot with a cross-slot pass, and Corazzini sent a shot past a scrambling Parise for a 2-1 Norfolk lead.
Nearly four minutes later, MacDonald elected to shoot the puck himself and found similar results. While the Admirals were on a power play, MacDonald received the puck from Bryan Bickell and sent a wrist shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle through a screen and into the back of the net at 17:47.
The Devils fought back late in the second stanza. Patrick Davis sped through the Admirals' zone in front of the defense and sent a wrist shot over Crawford at 19:04.
Andy Greene tied the game at three goals apiece midway through the final frame, as his backhand shot on a breakaway eluded Crawford at 13:03.
Corazzini scored the game-winning goal with a breakaway of his own in the game's final minute. He collected the puck at the red line and sped toward Parise on the left wing. Corazzini deked across the crease and lifted a shot over Parise's left leg with 43 seconds remaining.
Crawford (19 shots, 16 saves) won his sixth straight game and 19th overall this season. Parise (37 shots, 34 saves) got the loss.
The Admirals were 1-3 on the power play. The Norfolk penalty kill remained perfect over the past six games with a three kills tonight. The Admirals PK is 32 for 32 in its last six games and is 38-39 (97.4%) in their last seven.
The new Parenteau-MacDonald-Corazzini line combined for eight points (3g, 5a) on the night.
Brandon Bochenski and Martin St. Pierre were held without a point tonight, ending their scoring streaks at 14 games (a new franchise record) and eight games, respectively.
The Admirals travel to Hershey tomorrow night for a 7:00 matchup against the Bears. This game will kick of the first of three straight matches between the East Division foes, as the Bears will visit Scope next week for 7:15 p.m. matches on Wednesday and Friday.
