Sharks Sign Forward Sean Collins to Professional Tryout Agreement

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the club has signed Center Sean Collins to a Professional Tryout Agreement.

Collins, a native of Reading, MA, has spent most of this season in the ECHL with the Wheeling Nailers. In 24 games, Collins scored 41 points (12+29=41) with Wheeling, good for third in the league in scoring. He also recorded two assists while skating in three games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

During the 2005-06 season with Wheeling, Collins tallied 76 points (27+49=76) in 62 games played.

The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound native of Reading, Mass. played four years at the University of New Hampshire where he scored the game-winning goal in the championship game to give UNH its first-ever Hockey East Championship in 2001-2002. He led the Wildcats to a second-consecutive Hockey East title in 2002-03 and to the NCAA Finals where UNH lost to Minnesota. He recorded 173 points (77g-96 assists) in 164 games and was named a First-Team All-American in 2004-05.

Collins was selected in the ninth round (No. 289) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

Tonight, the Sharks travel to Manchester to take on the Monarchs for a 7:35 p.m. start at the Verizon Wireless Arena. On Saturday, the Sharks return home to host the Portland Pirates in a 7:00 p.m. game at the DCU Center. Following the game, there will be a fireworks display to ring in the New Year with a bang! The Sharks are also holding a book drive where fans are encouraged to bring used books to donate. The Sharks "Reading is Cool" program will then disburse the books to local elementary schools in the community.
