Iowa Chops News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Iowa Stars faced-off against the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights for the second time in four nights and the sixth time overall on Friday evening. Iowa used two-point performances by three different players to post a 3-1 win and earn their fourth-straight win and their second consecutive over Omaha.
The Knights grabbed an early lead just 3:58 into the opening period. Andrei Taratukhin gave the Knights the 1-0 lead when he scored a power-play goal a minute into the game's first power-play. Both teams had 10 shots in the period.
Iowa Stars Captain Marty Wilford evened the score at one with his fourth goal of the season. Wilford's power-play goal came at 5:33 of the middle stanza and was assisted by Joel Lundqvist and Vojtech Polak. That was the lone goal of the second period.
Tied at one entering the third period, Rookie forward Francis Wathier picked the right time to notch his second goal of the season. The even-strength goal was assisted by Dan Hacker and came at the 10:58 mark of the final period. Joel Lundqvist, Polak and Hacker all grabbed their second point of the game when Lundqvist netted an empty-net goal to seal the victory with :47 seconds left.
With his parents visiting from Switzerland for the holiday, Iowa netminder Tobias Stephan turned aside 21 of 22 Omaha shots. The win was Stephan's eighth win of the season.
