Rochester Americans News Release

Game Notes: Tonight, the Rochester Americans (21-8-1-0, 43 pts.) will play their final home game of 2006 as they take on the Binghamton Senators (10-19-1-2, 23 pts.) at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. The game will also be televised live on TWSN.

Head-to-Head: The Amerks have won all five meetings between the two teams this season and own a 16-15-4 all-time record against the B-Sens. In their last meeting, on December 23rd, the Amerks pulled off a 6-5 comeback-win at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Amerks rebounded from two separate two-goal deficits and netted four straight power-play goals in the second period to complete their rally. The win was extra special for a pair of Amerk rookies, as Andrej Sekera (2+1) and Mike Funk (1 goal) picked up their first professional markers.

Amerk Notes: With a record of 7-7-1-0 in their last 15 games, the Amerks have hit a stretch in which they have struggled to find consistency. In their last eight games, Rochester has alternated wins and losses, including an 8-4 loss to Hamilton on December 15th and a 10-4 win over Binghamton on December 16th. One source of the Amerks' woes has been their tendency to fall behind early, as the Amerks' opposition has scored first in 12 of their last 13 games. With Hamilton's win over Manitoba on Thursday, the Amerks fell to second in the North Division, one point back of the Bulldogs. Marek Zagrapan is on a four-game point-scoring streak (2+4), while Janis Sprukts has registered a point in his last five games (3+7) and Clarke MacArthur has picked up at least one point in his last seven games (3+10). MacArthur leads all Amerk scorers with 12 goals and 24 assists in 28 games.

Binghamton Notes: After beating Bridgeport on December 9th and Toronto on December 10th, Binghamton has lost four of its last five games. During the five-game span the B-Sens have given up 29 goals (5.8 per game). Defenseman Andy Hedlund (1+3) and left wing Brian Maloney (2+1) are on three-game point-scoring streaks, while Cory Pecker has registered at least one point in his last five games (5+3). Jeff Heerema has 12 points (4+8) in his last nine games. Heerema leads the B-Sens with 15 goals and 17 assists in 32 games.

Player Moves: On Wednesday, the Florida Panthers sent forward Janis Sprukts back to Rochester. The move allowed the Panthers to recall forward David Booth. Sprukts was recalled on December 18th and returns to Rochester after playing four games with the Panthers. The Amerk rookie is second on the team in points with 27 (7+20) in 25 games. Booth returns to South Florida for the third time this season. He made his NHL debut on November 20th against Boston and picked up his first NHL point/assist versus Anaheim on December 12th. In 19 games with the Amerks, Booth has registered three goals and six assists, and has a plus-five rating.

Next Game: The Amerks hit the ice again on Saturday, December 30th as they take on high-powered offense of the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena. The 8:00 p.m. EST contest will be broadcast on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.
