Bridgeport Islanders News Release
ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland and Labrador - Ryan Pulock, Griffin Reinhart and Mike Halmo each tallied a goal and an assist, helping the Sound Tigers to a 5-3 win over the St. John's IceCaps at Mile One Centre.
Johan Sundstorm scored his second goal of the season to open up the scoring midway through the first period. However, St. John's Ryan Olsen tied up the game at 1-1 with 5:17 to go in the frame. Then it was Reinhart who answered right back with a shot wired over the shoulder of IceCaps goalie Peter Budaj, giving the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
A late penalty was called against Kris Friedman at the end of the first, giving the Sound Tigers a man advantage to start the second. Ryan Pulock began the period strong by scoring a goal just 28 seconds in. It was the Sound Tigers lone power play tally for the day, going 1-for-3, while the IceCaps went 1-for-4 with the advantage.
With 11:26 remaining in the second, Chris Langkow added to the lead by burying a rebound, getting his first goal of the season in the process to make it 4-1. The IceCaps replaced Budaj with Connor Hellebuyck and mounted a comeback, but it was too little, too late. Although they pulled the score to 4-3, Halmo sealed the deal with an empty-net goal to win the game.
Pulock was named the game's first star while Scooter Vaughan earned the third star despite not recording a point. David Leggio made 26 stops in a winning effort.
Notes: Jesse Graham had a four-game scoring streak snapped...The Sound Tigers earned five out of eight points against the IceCaps this season...It was the team's first-ever regulation win in St. John's.
