Oklahoma City Barons News Release

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Matt Ford scored the game-winning goal in overtime and Frans Tuohimaa stopped 46 shots as the Oklahoma City Barons defeated the Texas Stars 6-5 Saturday night at the Cedar Park Center.

With 2:14 left in the overtime period, Curtis Hamilton found Matt Ford in the high Texas slot, who sent a wrist shot over the glove of Stars goalie Jussi Rynnas to give the Barons their second win of the season and second win over Texas in as many days.

Despite holding a 5-2 lead after two periods, the Barons surrendered three unanswered goals in the third period, allowing Texas to force overtime.

Travis Morin had a hat trick in the game and finished with four points for the Stars. Morin became the second Texas player in history to acquire a hat trick against the Barons, with the first being Chris Mueller on New Year's Eve 2013 in Oklahoma City.

Texas' 51 shots on the night marked the highest total against Oklahoma City in Barons history.

The Stars opened scoring with Morin's first goal coming at 8:10 of the first period. Scott Glennie sent a pass to the left circle where Morin corralled and sent a shot through traffic that eluded Tuohimaa for 1-0 Stars lead.

Just 36 seconds later, Oklahoma City evened the score at one when Dillon Simpson scored his first professional goal, netting a one-timer at the point off a Tyler Pitlick pass from the left circle.

After a hooking penalty was assessed to Texas' Glennie at 13:27 of the first, Andrew Miller extended the Barons' lead to 2-1, firing a wrist shot from the left dot through a screen by Ford and past Rynnas. With the goal, Miller extended his point streak to four games.

At 17:07 of the first, Bogdan Yakimov gave the Barons a two-goal lead when he grabbed a mishandled puck by Texas' Julius Honka and snapped a shot past Rynnas for his first career AHL goal.

Early in the second period, the Barons took a three-goal lead when Kale Kessy netted his first goal of the season, rebounding an Oscar Klefbom shot and increasing the Barons' advantage to 4-1 at 2:21.

Texas inched closer at 12:36 of the second period when Derek Meech blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle past Tuohimaa just as a holding penalty to Oklahoma City's C.J. Ludwig had expired. The even strength goal cut the Barons' lead to 4-2.

Twelve seconds later, Anton Lander regained the Barons' three-goal lead, creating a breakaway opportunity off the ensuing faceoff and beating Rynnas for a 5-2 Oklahoma City lead.

Quickly into the third period, Texas began to climb back. At the 58-second mark of the period, Morin netted his second goal of the night, tipping a Derek Hulak shot in front of the Barons net that snuck past Tuohimaa, closing the score to 5-3.

At 4:46 of the third, Morin grabbed the hat trick, scoring on a one-timer from a Hulak centering pass out of the left corner of the Barons zone. Morin's goal reduced the Barons' lead to 5-4.

Playing with an empty-net late in the third period, Texas completed the comeback with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation when Greg Rallo took a pass through the Oklahoma City slot and tipped the puck past Tuohimaa to force overtime.

Ford's overtime goal was his first of the season.

Texas outshot Oklahoma City 51-33 on the game, 24-9 in the final 25 minutes of play.

The teams face off again Wednesday, October 29, at 7 p.m. in Cedar Park, capping off three consecutive meetings between the two.
