Freddie Hamilton Scores Natural Third Period Hat Trick in 4-1 Win

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Sharks (4-1-1-0, 9pts) improved to 2-1-1-0 on their season long six game home stand following a 4-1 victory over the visiting Portland Pirates (2-5-0-0, 4pts) in front 2,559 fans at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon.

Freddie Hamilton scored his first three goals of the season, all within a 5:12 stretch early in the third period to lead the way offensively. Daniil Tarasov (0-3-3) and Evan Trupp (1-2-3) also added three points while Troy Grosenick made 28 saves in net for the victory. Evan Oberg scored the only Pirates goal while Mike McKenna allowed three goals on 34 shots in the loss.

The Sharks and Pirates will battle again on Wednesday night at the DCU Center at 7pm.

Portland took an early 1-0 lead at 4:16 as defenseman Evan Oberg (1st) fired a shot past the glove of Troy Grosenick from 40 feet as the Sharks allowed the first goal of the season for the first time this season. Jimmy Bonneau (2nd FM) fought Mark Louis (3rd FM) at 8:56 in a long battle in the Pirates zone. Worcester trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes of play as Portland held an 11-9 shot advantage.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period as the Sharks had more jam in the middle frame. Mike McKenna made 11 second period saves for the Pirates while Troy Grosenick made eight saves for Worcester as the Pirates took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

It was the Freddie Hamilton show in the third period as the third year pro scored three goals in the first 7:53 of the final frame. Hamilton (1st) tied the score at 1-1 with a snipe from the right circle at 2:41. Freddie (2nd) put the Sharks ahead 2-1 at 6:48 with a power play goal from the left circle. Hamilton (3rd) scored his third goal of the period after Konrad Abeltshauser fired the puck from the left wall and Hamilton jammed home a loose puck in front to put Worcester ahead 3-1. Evan Trupp (1st) finished the game off with an empty net goal at 18:33 as the Sharks scored four unanswered goals for the 4-1 victory. The Sharks overall record improves to 4-1-1-0, 9pts and 2-1-1-0, 5pts at the DCU Center
