Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - Two San Antonio Rampage goals in the span of 49 seconds in the second period were the undoing of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon as the 'Dogs (2-2-2-0) went on to fall 5-2 to the Rampage (5-2-0-0) at FirstOntario Centre.
San Antonio forward Connor Brickley opened the scoring with less than three minutes to go in the first period, with assists from forwards Mark Mancari and Brett Olson.
Hamilton forward Christian Thomas tied the game 1-1 with his second goal of the season just over six minutes into the second period when his shot deflected up and over San Antonio goaltender Dan Ellis. Forwards Charles Hudon and Sven Andrighetto had assists on the play.
Rampage forward Rocco Grimaldi gave his team a 2-1 lead at 9:27 of the second period, with assists from forward Drew Shore and defenceman Shane O'Brien. Just 49 seconds later, forward Bobby Butler beat Hamilton goaltender Joey MacDonald on an odd-man rush, unassisted, to give San Antonio a 3-1 lead.
With 27 seconds to go in the middle frame, Rampage forward Garrett Wilson put his team ahead 4-1, with assists from defencemen Alex Petrovic and Greg Zanon.
Four minutes into the third period, Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont got his club within two with a screened shot from the high slot that beat Ellis clean for his second goal of 2014-15. Forwards T.J. Hensick and Drayson Bowman collected assists.
Wilson added an empty netter with 2:30 to go to seal the win for the Rampage, 5-2.
MacDonald made 21 saves on 25 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Ellis stopped 28 of 30 shots faced for the Rampage in the win.
Hamilton went 0-for-5 on the power play, while San Antonio was 0-for-3.
