Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Derrick Pouliot netted his first pro goal, Tom Kostopoulos added to his all-time team record, and Andrew Ebbett notched the game-winner, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins downed the Binghamton Senators, 3-2, on Sunday evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The win moved the Penguins (4-4-0-0, 8 points) back to the .500 mark on the season and into a tie for first place in the East Division. Meanwhile the Sens (2-3-2-0, 6pts) have won just once in their past five games.
The Pens jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game. Kostopoulos picked up a rebound in front of goaltender Andrew Hammond and deposited his first of the season in the Sens' net. The goal was his 123rd in a Penguins' uniform, and his 301st point with the club.
Pouliot snapped home a shot from the point with the Pens on the power play, and now sits just 122 goals behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton captain on the team's all-time scoring list.
Binghamton battled back thanks to goals from Chris Wideman, who extended his point streak to six games with his first period tally, and Cole Schneider, whose power play goal at 13:46 of the middle frame gave him three goals in the past five games.
Ebbett, who began the week with the Pittsburgh Penguins before being reassigned to Wilkes-Barre, picked up his first goal of the season to give the Pens the winning margin. His assist earlier on Pouliot's goal gave him points in all three Penguins games this weekend (1+34).
Eric Hartzell picked up his first win for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton since February 7 of last season, as he stopped 21 shots in his first action of the season.
The Penguins hit the road for games in Lehigh Valley (Wednesday, October 29) and Norfolk (Friday, October 31 & Saturday, November 1) this week, before returning home for a meeting with the Hershey Bears on November 7.
Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
