St. John's IceCaps News Release

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers found their offensive game in a big way on Sunday with four goals before the second intermission as they topped the St. John's IceCaps 5-3 at Mile One Centre.

The Sound Tigers got singles from Johan Sundstrom, Griffin Reinhart, Ryan Pulock, Chris Langkow and Mike Halmo while the IceCaps replied with tallies from Ryan Olsen, Chase Balisy and Blair Riley.

Carl Klingberg and Ben Chiarot each finished the game with two assists for the IceCaps.

The Sound Tigers were the first on the board on Sunday afternoon as Sundstrom skated across the blue line to the middle of the ice and sent a hard wrist shot on net that beat IceCaps starter Peter Budaj up high at 8:25 of the first period.

The IceCaps got it back just over three minutes later as Olsen took a pass from Chiarot in the high slot and beat Bridgeport starter David Leggio glove side for his first goal as a professional with just over five minutes remaining in the first.

The celebration was cut short less than two minutes later as the Sound Tigers' Griffin Reinhart beat Budaj with a quick shot from the left wing circle to give Bridgeport a 2-1 cushion heading into the first intermission.

The Sound Tigers continued their offensive push early in the second period as Pulock made a nice move to cut into the IceCaps zone and roofed a shot over Budaj's glove hand for a power play goal and his first as a professional for a 3-1 lead. The goal ended Budaj's afternoon. He finished the game with three goals against on 16 shots.

Bridgeport kept pushing in the second frame and earned themselves a three-goal lead as Langkow picked up his own rebound in front of the net and potted his first goal of the year behind goaltender Connor Hellebuyck at 7:58.

The IceCaps stopped the bleeding and ended their power play woes with 6:27 left in the second period as Chase Balisy took a pass from Brenden Kichton near the right circle and snapped a quick shot behind Leggio to cut the Bridgeport lead to two.

Blair Riley kept the IceCaps alive 3:30 into the third period as he parked in front of the net and tipped a Chiarot wrist shot behind Leggio to make it a 4-3 game but that's as close as the IceCaps could get.

Halmo added an empty netter with just under two minutes remaining as Leggio and the Sound Tigers held on for the victory.

The IceCaps finished their six-game homestand with a 2-2-2-0 record and now hit the road for six in a row beginning next Friday in Portland against the Pirates. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. NT. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnicecaps.com and 930AM, or watch live on Rogers TV and AHL Live.
