Lehigh Valley Phantoms News Release
Lehigh Valley, PA - The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have recalled defenseman Brett Flemming and forward Derek Mathers from their loans to the Reading Royals (ECHL). Flemming, 23, recorded three goals and four points in three games with Reading this season while Mathers, 21, notched an assist and nine points through two games with the Royals this year.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Flemming spent much of last season in Reading where he tallied six goals and 18 points and was the first defender in Royals history to be named the team's most valuable player. He also suited up for four games with the Hershey Bears last year where he managed one assist. All told, Flemming has produced 13 goals, 52 points and 226 penalty minutes in 179 career professional games between Hershey, Reading and the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL).
Meanwhile, Mathers, a native of Strathroy, Ontario, spent last season with the Adirondack Phantoms where he managed two goals and 105 penalty minutes in 34 outings. In all, the 6'3", 225-pound winger has 55 games of AHL experience in which he's produced three goals and 155 penalty minutes.
Flemming will wear jersey number 3 while Mathers will wear 29 for the Phantoms. Both players will be eligible to play this evening when Lehigh Valley concludes its three-game weekend with a 5:00 PM showdown at the Hershey Bears. The Phantoms earned a come-from-behind 4-2 victory at PPL center on Friday over Hershey before claiming a dramatic 5-4 overtime triumph at the Binghamton Senators last night. Lehigh Valley (4-1-0, 8 pts.) enters this evening's match-up tied with the Bears for first place in the East Division.
The Phantoms then return to PPL Center this Wednesday when they welcome the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to town for the first time this season. The puck drops at 7:05 PM and tickets are available now at the Mealey's Furniture Box Office at PPL Center (701 Hamilton Street), by calling 610-347-TIXX (8499) or online at pplcenter.com.
