October 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators fell 3-2 in their first of eight games against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Former B-Sen Andrew Ebbett registered the game-winning goal 3:50 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie.
Tom Kostopoulos struck first for the host Penguins beating Binghamton's Andrew Hammond at 4:01 of the first. Just over three minutes later, Derek Pouliot gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the 2-0 lead on a power-play strike at 7:23. Chris Wideman continued his strong play with a goal 15:25 into the first period to shrink the Penguins lead to 2-1.
Binghamton scored the lone marker of the second period on Cole Schneider's power-play goal at 13:46 of the frame. A slap shot from the point by Wideman found Matt Puempel's stick down low. The puck popped up in front of Schneider who batted it past the Penguins Eric Hartzell for his third goal this season.
Ebbett sent home a loose puck on Hammond's doorstep just shy of the four minute mark of the third to give the Penguins the 3-2 lead. Despite numerous late period chances by Binghamton, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton managed to hang on for the victory.
Hammond finished with 37 saves while Hartzell earned the win with a 21 save performance in his first appearance in net this season.
The B-Sens will be back on home ice next Wednesday, October 29, when they host the Utica Comets at 7:05p.m. Tickets for Wednesday are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in Monday-Friday between 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets through the Floyd L.
