Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - After surrendering the first two goals of the night to the Greenville Road Warriors, the Solar Bears came storming back for a 3-2 victory in front of 9,082 fans at the Amway Center on Thursday night. Forward Jacob Cepis notched two goals in the game to lead the Solar Bears to the comeback win.
The Road Warriors opened up the scoring 3:08 into the first. F Jordie Johnston took the puck across the high slot, dropped a pass to D Matt Bruneteau, and D Ryan Hegerty deflected the shot right in front of the goal mouth to give Greenville the 1-0 advantage. The Road Warriors increased the lead to 2-0 just after the halfway point of the frame when F Andrew Rowe recovered a bouncing puck in the slot and whipped it inside the post to double the lead. Orlando started their comeback with 3:58 remaining, as F Taylor Matson stole the puck in the right corner, moved it in front of the net, and Cepis slammed it home to cut the lead to 2-1. The score remained 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
D Connor Goggin tied the game 12:25 into the second stanza. Goggin stepped up along the left point, intercepted a clearing pass, and fired a wrister over the left pad of G Jeff Malcolm to lock the score at 2-2. It was the lone goal scored in the middle frame.
Cepis put the Solar Bears ahead with 13:59 to go in the third. Lang knocked the puck loose with a body check in the offensive end and Cepis wrapped around the net before firing the puck just under the crossbar to grab a 3-2 advantage for Orlando. A late penalty to the Solar Bears gave Greenville an opportunity to tie the game with the goaltender pulled for a 6-on-4 advantage, but the Solar Bears and G Maxime Clermont held strong for the 3-2 Solar Bears victory. Clermont stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced in the game to earn third star honors for Orlando.
