Orlando, FL: The Road Warriors were not able to hold a two-goal lead on Thursday and lost to the Orlando Solar Bears by a score of 3-2 in regulation.
After an early penalty kill, defenseman Ryan Hegarty gave the Road Warriors a 1-0 lead with a one-timer goal. His fourth of the season was assisted by Jordie Johnston and Matt Bruneteau for his first professional point. Andrew Rowe extended the lead with his 30th goal of the season halfway through the period. Josh Nicholls left the puck in the slot for Rowe to score. Mike Marcou also assisted on the goal. With four minutes left, Jacob Cepis converted on a turnover after receiving a pass from Taylor Matson to move the score to 2-1 heading into the second period. Jeff Malcolm was busy in the first, stopping 11 shots.
Halfway through the second period, Orlando tied the game at two with a slap shot from Connor Goggin. The defenseman scored an unassisted goal after preventing a clearing attempt while Orlando maintained constant pressure in the Greenville zone. After two periods, Orlando outshot the Road Warriors 22-11.
Cepis scored his second of the game and the eventual game-winner just six minutes into the third period. It was his 20th goal of the season and Mickey Lang tallied the assist. Orlando continued to keep Malcolm busy with 17 other shots for a game total of 40. The Road Warriors pulled netminder Jeff Malcolm in the final minute that also combined with a power play to give them a two-man advantage. Despite the late rush, Greenville could not find the back of the net and fell by a score of 3-2. Maxime Clermont won his 10th of the year with 20 saves.
The Road Warriors travel to play the Florida Everblades on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Germain Arena. The regular season concludes on Sunday at 3 p.m. with another game against the Solar Bears.
