Rink Change Freezes Wranglers in 2-1 Loss to Grizzlies
April 10, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Salt Lake City, Utah - The Las Vegas Wranglers fell to the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 in a game that began on Wednesday, Apr. 9 at the Maverick Center, but concluded just before 1:00pm the following day at the Grizzlies' practice rink. An issue with the ice forced the two teams to pause Wednesday night's game with 6:21 to go in the second period, playing the final 26 minutes at the Olympic Oval on Thursday, Apr. 10 at 11:55am. Vegas goaltender Travis Fullerton made 40 stops in the loss, adding to his league-leading saves total this season.
The game began as planned at 7:05pm on Wednesday night at the Maverick Center, with Utah and Las Vegas meeting for the final time in the 2013-14 season. The Wranglers would draw first blood as Chris Kushneriuk buried his third goal of the season 8:26 into the game, assisted by Geoff Paukovich (9) and Shawn Skelly (16).
Utah would answer back to tie the game up 1-1 as Danick Pacquette scored on the power-play early in the second period, his 21st goal of the season, assisted by David Vallorani (33) and Charles Sarault (4). With 6:12 remaining in the frame, an issue with the playing surface would prevent the teams from finishing the game on Wednesday night, remaining deadlocked 1-1.
Thursday morning the game would resume just before noon, but the teams would remain level at 1-1 when the second period finally concluded. Vallorani would then break the deadlock with 9:51 to go in the final frame, putting Utah ahead for good with his second point of the contest and 24th goal of the season, assisted by Brendan Jamison (5) and Sarault (5).
With just two more games remaining for Las Vegas in the 2013-14 season, the Wranglers will now make their way over to Stockton for a matchup with the Thunder on Saturday, Apr. 12. The Wranglers will then conclude the regular season campaign with one more stop in Bakersfield, taking on the Condors on Sunday, Apr. 13. After that, the first round of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs begins, though the Wranglers' opening series opponent is yet to be determined.
