Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

It was a valiant comeback bid in the top of the ninth inning, but the slump has hit four for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Scoring two runs in the ninth wasn't enough, as the Goldeyes (18-10) fell 4-3 to the Sioux City Explorers (16-14) Saturday night in Winnipeg's fourth consecutive loss before 1,251 fans at Lewis and Clark Park.

The Explorers scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead, but the Goldeyes would respond in the sixth when Chris Roberson scored on a Yurendell de Caster ground ball.

After Sioux City scored twice more in the seventh inning, the Goldeyes staged a two-out rally in the top of the ninth. Josh Mazzola singled and then scored on a triple by Ridge Carpenter, who then scored on a David Narodowski single. But, after Price Kendall walked to put runners on first and second, Chris Roberson popped out to Sioux City catcher Ray Serrano to end the game.

Goldeyes starter Fabian Williamson posted a quality start, going six innings and allowing just two runs on three hits. He also struck out seven, but gets stuck with his four loss of the season.

Ty Marotz improved to 2-0 with the win for Sioux City, while Chad Bodishbaugh picked up his eighth save of the season and third straight against the Goldeyes.

Aside from losing the game, Winnipeg also lost its third baseman for an undetermined period of time, as Amos Ramon suffered a separated shoulder in a collision at home plate in the third inning with Serrano.

The Goldeyes have now lost four in a row and will be out to avoid being swept in the series finale tomorrow night.

Rich Hawkins (2-0, 3.18) will take the ball for Winnipeg tomorrow against Sioux City's Nick Schumacher (4-1, 4.07).

Coverage on TSN 1290 begins at 4:30 p.m. with 55 with Forney. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
