Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City------The Explorers edged Winnipeg 4-3 Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park as the X's stretched their winning streak to four games, their longest of the season. Ty Marotz pitched six and two thirds innings to get the win, his 26th career win, breaking the career win record for an Explorer pitcher. The Explorers didn't have a base runner off losing hurler Fabian Williamson until Michael Lang walked with two outs in the fourth. Ray Serrano broke up the no-hitter with a lead off single in the fifth and after a walk to Adrian Martinez, it was a two-out double by Brian Bistange that scored Serrano and Martinez and the Explorers led 2-0. Winnipeg cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the sixth inning, but the Explorers added two runs in the seventh to make it a 4-1 Sioux City lead. Again, the Explorers scored their two runs in the seventh after two out with Brandon Newton and Michael Lange getting the RBI's. Newton's base hit extended his hitting streak to a season high 12 games. Winnipeg would make it interesting in the ninth inning as the Goldeyes would score two runs after two outs to cut the lead to 4-3. With runners at first and second Chris Roberson poped up to catcher Ray Serrano for the final out as Chris Bodishbaugh would pick up his eight save of the year and his sixth save in the last seven days. The Explorers and Winnipeg will close out the four-game series Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time will be 6:05.
