Sacramento River Cats News Release

Oakland A's designated hitter Mike Sweeney is scheduled to begin his Major League Rehabilitation assignment for the River Cats tonight against the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners) at Raley Field.

Sweeney was placed on the disabled list by Oakland on May 29 with left knee inflammation. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on July 8. This marks the first time the 35-year-old slugger has played in a River Cats uniform.

The former Kansas City Royals first baseman is in his 13th full Major League season and his first as a member of the Oakland Athletics. Sweeney entered this season as a career .299 hitter and is hitting .292 in 40 games with the A's this season. He currently has 199 career Major League home runs and 849 Major League RBIs. Sweeney has hit 72 home runs in 488 games at the Minor League level.

Tickets are still available for both Monday and Tuesday's games.
