West Sacramento, Calif. - The River Cats won their seventh consecutive game on Monday night with a 7-1 victory against the Tacoma Rainiers at Raley Field. The River Cats (77-52) are now 25 games over .500, the club's best mark of the season and the best record in the Pacific Coast League. The River Cats moved to 13.0 games ahead in the PCL Pacific South division and lowered their magic number to just three games, awaiting the final of second-place Las Vegas' contest against Fresno. The River Cats are now 15-2 in the month of August. Sacramento starter Dana Eveland threw eight innings in the win, allowing just one run and striking out eight without allowing a walk. Danny Putnam hit his 15th home run of the season with a solo shot in the first inning off Tacoma starter Rich Dorman. Justin Knoedler hit an RBI double in the second inning, part of a two-run inning in which the Rainiers defense committed three errors. Outfielder Aaron Cunningham hit his third home run as a River Cat and outfielder Chris Denorfia was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in the win. The River Cats conclude their eight-game homestand on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. vs. Tacoma before leaving on a 10-game, nine-day roadtrip to Fresno and then Tacoma.
