Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats announced today the 2008 Pacific Coast League playoff schedule and that tickets for all 2008 River Cats playoff games at Raley Field will go on sale on Thursday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. The River Cats currently hold a 12 ½ game lead over second place Las Vegas in the PCL Pacific Conference South Division with 16 games remaining. The Cats' "magic number" to clinch their 7th division title in 9 years is four (4). The River Cats have won 3 PCL Championships (2003, 2004 and 2007) and one Triple-A Championship (2007) in the franchise's first 8 seasons.
Should the team hold its lead and qualify for post-season play, it will host games 1 and 2 (Sept. 3 and 4) of the 5-game Pacific Conference Championship Series at Raley Field. Games 3, 4 and 5 (games 4 and 5 if necessary) would be played on the road. If the season ended today, the Cats' first-round opponent would be the Salt Lake Bees (Triple-A affiliate of the LA Angels of Anaheim) who own a 5.0 game lead in the Pacific Conference North Division.
If the River Cats advance to the PCL Championship Series (also a best-of-five format), they will again host games 1 and 2 (Sept. 9 and 10) at Raley Field. Games 3, 4 and 5 (games 4 and 5 if necessary) would be played on the road. If the River Cats were to win this series and be crowned Pacific Coast League Champions, they would then play the International League Champion in the Bricktown Showdown, a one-game Triple-A Championship in Oklahoma City broadcast worldwide on ESPN2.
