
Portland yields season-high 22 hits in 17-5 loss

TUCSON, Ariz. - Trent Oeltjen recorded four hits and seven RBIs and Tim Raines Jr.logged five hits of his own to lead to lead the Tucson Sidewinders to a 17-5 win over the Portland Beavers on Sunday at Tucson Electric Park.
Raines was 5-for-6 at the plate, including a double and a triple, Oeltjan had two triples among his four hits, and Josh Whitesell and Jesus Merchan each logged three RBIs to help Tucson break a three-game losing streak and even its four-game series with Portland at one game a piece.
Tucson (55-71) broke open a one-run game by scoring 13 unanswered runs over the final three innings of the game. Portland (66-62) gave up a season-high 22 hits to the Sidewinders.
Merchan capped off a four-run sixth inning with a two-run home run. In the seventh,Oeltjan and Whitesell drove in all four runs in the inning on back-to-back, two-run base hits. Tucson then scored five in the eighth on a three-run triple by Oeltjan and a two-run home run by Justin Upton.
Juan Gutierrez (4-10) conceded five walks in five innings, but allowed just three runs on four hits to record the victory for the Sidewinders.
Paul McAnulty was 2-for-2 with a double and three walks, Vincent Sinisi collected three RBIs and Brett Dowdy, Matt Antonelli and Shawn Wooten each logged a pair of hits for Portland, who entered Sunday's game with a four-game winning streak against the Sidewinders in Tucson.
Cesar Ramos (9-9) was handed his second loss in three appearances after yielding 11 hits which led to six runs (four earned) in five innings of work.
The Beavers took advantage of three walks by Gutierrez in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2 in the third inning. A single by Antonelli sandwiched by walks to Dowdy and McAnulty loaded the bases for Chip Ambres, who drew the third walk of the inning to force in Dowdy for one of his two RBIs on the night. Sinisi then drove in a run on a ground out to second base.
Tucson regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning. A sacrifice fly by Merchan drove in Whitesell, who led off the inning with single, and back-to-back singles by Robby Hammock and Don Kelly plated Jamie D'Antona to give the Sidewinders a 4-2 lead.
A sacrifice fly by Ambres in the fifth inning helped Portland pull within a run at 4-3 as Dowdy, who led off the inning with a double, scored from third.
