Tucson's Bats Erupt In 17-5 Blowout

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders scored 17 runs with 22 hits in their 17-5 victory over the Portland Beavers on Sunday night. Tucson produced four or more runs in each of their last three innings of the game, scoring 13 of their 17 runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning.

Arizona Diamondback outfielder Justin Upton made his fourth rehab start with Tucson going 2-for-6 with two runs, two RBI, and two strikeouts. Upton hit his first home run with the Sidewinders in the eighth inning.

Oeltjen had his best game in a Sidewinders uniform with seven RBI in the game. He added four hits, three runs, and two triples. Tim Raines, Jr. lead the Sidewinders with five hits in the game and four runs. Donnie Kelly also had four hits in the contest, which was his third four hit game of the season.

Jesus Merchan hit his third home run of the season in the sixth inning bringing home Josh Whitsell for two of his three RBI.

Portland's Chip Ambres and Vince Sinisi brought in all five of the Beavers runs. Sinisi had three of the five, while Ambres had two. Brett Dowdy scored three of Portland's runs even though he had all two of the Beavers' errors.

The Sidewinders will face Portland in game three of a four game series on Monday at 7:00 PM. RHP Matt Torra (3-4, 5.37) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Left-hander Wade LaBlanc (10-7, 5.22) will start for the Beavers. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50 p.m.
