Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs and Bulldogs Foundation, in association with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Walter Gretzky and Hamilton Minor Hockey, present the third annual 'Skate with the Bulldogs' on Sunday, December 12th at Copps Coliseum. The event will take place following the conclusion of the 'Dogs home game against the Toronto Marlies at 1:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. Registered Bulldogs fans and minor hockey players will take to the ice for a skate and autograph session with the Bulldogs players following the game.

Funds raised will be directed to minor hockey league programs in Hamilton for association support and player development programs. Some associations will use the funds raised to provide equipment or cover league fees for minor hockey league players that otherwise would not be able to afford to play. CNIB Hamilton will also be supported by proceeds and awareness from the event which will help the organization provide vital services and programs for people who are blind or partially sighted.

Walter Gretzky will take part in the pre-game ceremonial puck drop for Sunday's game to show his support for the event. In honour of their outstanding commitment to young Canadians with vision loss, the Walter and Wayne Gretzky Scholarship Foundation was established in 1996. Each year, it presents scholarships to eligible students with vision loss who are planning to study at the post-secondary school level.

The Bulldogs Foundation is in a unique position within the community that allows for beneficial partnerships with great organizations such as Hamilton Minor Hockey and CNIB. Given the respect and admiration that children have for the Bulldogs players, the organization is able to give back to the community to help raise funds for the deserving organizations. This responsibility is one that the Hamilton Bulldogs accepts with great pride and respect. Skate with the Bulldogs is one such way that the 'Dogs players can give back to the community.

CNIB is a registered charity that provides community-based support, knowledge and a national voice to ensure blind and partially sighted Canadians have the confidence, skills and opportunities to fully participate in life.

Hamilton Minor Hockey focuses on developing and encouraging sportsmanship, community spirit and good fellowship among all participants to the betterment of their physical, mental and social well-being.

The Bulldogs travel to Rochester for two games against the Amerks beginning tonight with a tilt at 7:05 p.m. The second game will be played on Friday, December 10th at 7:35 p.m. The 'Dogs will return to Copps Coliseum for a game on Sunday, December 12th at 1:00 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBC. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
