Grand Rapids, MI--The Grand Rapids Griffins bested the Milwaukee Admirals for the second time in less than a week with a 3-2 win at Van Andel Arena Wednesday night.

The game didn't start well for the Admirals. Just 29 seconds in, Steve Begin was called for a hooking minor in Milwaukee's offensive zone. At 1:56, Mike Bartlett was whistled for tripping. The Griffins scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 2:10 of the first to take the lead when Jamie Tardif deflected a Derek Meech shot from the right point past Jeremy Smith.

The Admirals didn't record a shot on goal until 2:05 remained in the first period. That's when Milwaukee forward Ryan Thang outskated a Griffins defender to a puck in the left circle of the Griffins zone and whipped a backhander through the legs of goalie Joey MacDonald. It was Thang's first goal of the season and was assisted by Jamie Lundmark. Milwaukee was outshot 11-5 in the first period.

The Griffins Chris Minard gave his team a 2-1 lead when he converted a 2-on-1 pass from Jamie Johnson at 5:08 of the second period.

Grand Rapids forward Jan Mursak scored on a breakaway at 8:11 of the third to give the Griffins a two-goal lead. It proved to be the game-winner.

Milwaukee's Teemu Laakso scored a power play goal with 4:54 left in the third period to get Milwaukee within one. A centering attempt by Roman Josi on the right wing boards deflected to Laakso at the left point. Laakso's slapshot beat MacDonald over his glove. It was Laakso's third goal of the year, first on the power play. Josi and Linus Klasen recorded the assists.

The Admirals head to Rockford Friday night. Milwaukee returns home Saturday, December 11th to host Texas at 7:30 pm.
