Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD BC -Leland Irving would turn aside 23 shots in regulation and pick up his league leading 12th win of the season and fifth in the shootout as the Abbotsford Heat would skate to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Lake Erie Monsters in a tightly contested North Division battle on Tuesday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

In a physical first period of play both teams would trade back to back goals to tie the game at one's going into the second. In his first game back since suffering an injury back on November 12th in Providence, Heat forward Carter Bancks would make an impact by opening the scoring with a blast from inside the left faceoff circle that would catch Lake Erie goaltender John Grahame off guard. However, just eighteen seconds later at 11:49, the Monsters would reply as Matthew Ford would capitalize on an odd man rush. The game would remain tied at one thru the first period.

Stefan Meyer would give the Heat their second lead of the game, scoring his second of the season to make the score 2-1 Heat at 8:44. Meyer would collect the puck off the end boards and rip a quick shot past an off balance Grahame. Lake Erie would even things up as Julian Talbot and Ryan Stoa would work a give and go play to perfection with Stoa handcuffing Heat goalie Leland Irving with a shot over the right shoulder at 18:09 of the second.

The score would remain deadlocked at two's at the end of the third forcing an overtime period which failed to solve anything, leading the game into a shootout. The Abbotsford Heat would once again prevail in the shootout with Greg Nemisz and Matt Keith burying their chances to lift them over the Lake Erie Monsters.

The same two teams will meet Wednesday night at the AESC, puck drop at 7 pm.
