Rochester, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Rochester Americans 4-3 on Wednesday evening. The 'Dogs scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead before the Amerks scored three unanswered goals to hand the Bulldogs their third straight regulation loss for the first time this season.
The Americans opened the game's scoring at 5:26 of the first frame. Bates Battaglia received the puck from Michael Caruso before centering the puck to A.J. Jenks. Jenks one-timed a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford.
The 'Dogs tied the game 1-1 at 9:29 of the opening period. David Urquhart sent a pass to Aaron Palushaj, who skated between both Amerks defencemen before snapping a shot over the glove of Rochester starting goaltender Tyler Plante.
The Bulldogs earned a 2-1 lead six seconds into the second stanza with a power-play marker. David Desharnais won a faceoff, sending the puck to Pacioretty, who raced down the ice towards the Americans net. Pacioretty rifled a shot that sailed over the glove of Plante and into the net. The goal set a new franchise record for fastest regular season goal to start a period. Hamilton took a 3-1 lead at 8:03. Alex Henry carried the puck into Rochester's zone before dishing a pass to a trailing Mathieu Carle. Carle released a shot that beat Plante and soared into the top of the net.
The Amerks made the game 3-2 at 11:36 of the middle frame. Caruso fired a shot that was stopped by Sanford. The goaltender could not control the rebound, which was bouncing around in front of the net. The puck bounced onto the stick of Brady Calla, who fired a shot into the net. Michael Duco tied the game 3-3 at 14:19. Following a scramble in the Bulldogs zone, Duco collected the loose puck before whacking it past Sanford and into the net. Rochester took a 4-3 lead at 17:29.
