Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - Six members of the 2008 Harrisburg Senators have been picked to play in the elite Arizona Fall League following the conclusion of the regular season. RHPs Adam Carr and Zech Zinicola, LHP Cory VanAllen, INFs Ian Desmond and Bill Rhinehart and OF Leonard Davis will play for the Peoria Saguaros. One more player from the Nationals' system will be named prior to the start of the AFL season on October 7th.

Carr, 24, leads the Nationals' organization with 16 saves between Advanced-A Potomac and Harrisburg. As a Senator he is 3-4 with a 6.40 ERA in 29 appearances. Carr was an 18th-round selection by the Nats in the 2006 draft out of Oklahoma State University, where he was primarily a hitter. He hit 22 homers and drove in 86 runs in 2005 for OSU.

Zinicola, 23, has compiled nine saves between Potomac, Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus. In total, he is 8-5 with a 4.45 ERA in the three stops. Zinicola was drafted by the Nationals in the 6th round of the 2006 draft from Arizona State University.

VanAllen, 23, was having one of the best seasons for any pitcher in the minor leagues until an injury in late May sidelined him for two months. He is 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA between Potomac and Harrisburg this year. VanAllen was the Nationals' 5th-round selection in the 2006 draft out of Baylor University.

Desmond, 23, has dazzled with his defense at shortstop and is hitting .244 with 10 home runs, 41 RBIs and 12 stolen bases with the Senators this year. He missed over a month with an injury sustained in early June. Desmond was a 3rd-round pick by the Expos out of high school in the 2004 draft.

Rhinehart, 23, has made a splash in his first full professional season. He currently leads all Nationals' minor-leaguers with 86 RBIs between Low-A Hagerstown, Potomac and Harrisburg. He was the MVP of the South Atlantic League All-Star Game earlier this year. Rhinehart was selected by the Nats in the 11th round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Arizona.

Davis, 24, played just ten games with the Senators after a call-up from Potomac and was quickly promoted to Triple-A Columbus. Between the three stops, he is batting .308 with an organization-leading 24 home runs. He has also driven home 73 runs, fourth-most in the Nationals' system. Davis was an 8th-round selection by the Expos in the 2004 draft out of Fresno (CA) City College.

This is the 17th season for the Arizona Fall League. Since its inception, over 1,500 alums have reached the major leagues, 136 have been named MLB All-Stars, five have been MVPs at the major-league level and three have been Cy Young Award winners.

Each organization provides seven players to the Arizona Fall League. Therefore, one more player will come from the Nationals' organization.

The Senators open a season-ending four-game series tonight at Commerce Bank Park. They host the Bowie Baysox (Double-A Baltimore Orioles) with first pitch slated for 6:35 PM. To order tickets, call the box office at (717) 231-4444 or order online at senatorsbaseball.com.
