
Zambrano Promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Victor Zambrano has been promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). LHP Zach Kroenke has been transferred from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Trenton.
Zambrano made a pair of starts for the Thunder and had a record of 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched. He was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 24th. He has also spent time this season with the GCL Yankees and Colorado Springs (Triple-A), in the Colorado Minor League System. He was 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA. Zambrano has a career record of 45-44 with a 4.64 ERA in 187 Major League appearances during parts of seven seasons with Tampa Bay, New York (NL), Toronto and Baltimore. He was signed by the New York Yankees as a minor league free agent on July 31, 2008.
Kroenke is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He was 6-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 37 games for Trenton, including one save. He was 5-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 19 appearances at Waterfront Park. Since the All-Star break, Kroenke had a 2-0 record with a 1.93 ERA in nine games for the Thunder. Opponents were only hitting .187 against him. Last season, Kroenke split the season between Tampa (High-A) and Trenton. He was 0-1 with a 9.42 ERA in 15 games for the Thunder. He went 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 29 games for the Yankees. Kroenke was originally a fifth round selection by the Yankees in the 2005 draft.
Trenton wraps up the regular season at Waterfront Park with a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The first game of the series is on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Oneli Perez (2-2, 3.67) will start for Trenton. RHP Garrett Broshuis (13-9, 3.83) will start for Connecticut.
