
'Wolves Fall in Pitchers Duel

The SeaWolves came out on the short end of a pitching duel on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park, falling 3-1 to the Akron Aeros.
The Aeros struck first in the top of the first inning against SeaWolves starter Luis Marte. Josh Rodriguez led off the game with a base knock. With one out, Wes Hodges slammed his 17th home run to put the Aeros ahead 2-0. The next hitter, Matt LaPorta connected on his second home run of the season. The back-to-back homers gave the Aeros a 3-0 lead.
The SeaWolves answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning against Akron starter Steven Wright. Casper Wells drew a one-out walk to extend his consecutive games on-base streak to 27. Wilkin Ramirez singled to move Wells over and Ryan Roberson followed with a base knock, scoring Wells to make it a 3-1 game.
Marte (4-4), making his final start of the season, went seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with a walk and a strikeout in a losing effort. He shut down the Aeros over the final six innings he pitched.
Wright (4-3) picked up the win for Akron. He allowed a run in the first and went six strong allowing six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Randy Newsom picked up his 28th save tossing a perfect ninth.
The last time the SeaWolves were limited to just a run was in a 4-1 loss to Akron on July 31 at Canal Park.
