New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, purchased the contract of outfielder Travis Snider from Triple-A Syracuse today. Snider, 20, hit .262 with a team-leading 17 home runs and 67 RBI for the Fisher Cats between April 21, when he became the youngest player in team history, and August 7, when he was transferred to Syracuse.
"Whenever one of our former players earns a promotion to the Major Leagues, it's always exciting for our fans," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "In Travis' case, we're talking about an outstanding young man who provided some of the season's most memorable moments. We wish him the best of luck with the Blue Jays."
Snider's accomplishments with the Fisher Cats included earning a spot on the Northern Division Roster for the 2008 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Wednesday, July 16. That night, he outslugged Bowie's Lou Montanez to win the Irving Oil Home Run Derby before a stadium record-crowd of 8,762. Snider, rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Blue Jays organization, was also named the Eastern League's post-season, All-Star designated hitter.
Snider, the Blue Jays' 2006 first-round pick (14th overall) out of Jackson (WA) High School, will become the 28th player to make his Major League debut after playing for the Fisher Cats and the fifth Fisher Cats' alum to reach the Majors in 2008, following pitchers Jesse Carlson, David Purcey, and Scott Richmond, and catcher Robinzon Diaz.
The Fisher Cats close the 2008 season with a four-game series at Hadlock Field against the Portland Sea Dogs tonight through Monday. 2009 Fisher Cats Full- and Half-Season Tickets are on sale now. For information call (603) 641-2005 or visit www.nhfishercats.com.
