Sea Dogs to Play Ball with Maine's Special Olympians

Portland, Maine- On Saturday, August 30th at 9:30 AM, the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will team-up with the Maine Special Olympics. Several Sea Dogs players will take part in a baseball game playing alongside the Maine Special Olympic Athletes at Payson Park in Portland, Maine. Media is invited to attend.

The following Sea Dogs players are scheduled to take part in the event; Aaron Bates, Matt Goodson, Mike James, Ryan Khoury, Adam Mills, and Sea Dogs Hitting Coach Dave Joppie. All the Special Olympians participating in the event have been invited to attend Saturday's Sea Dogs game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

The Special Olympics Unified Sports program brings together athletes of all types who train and compete on the same teams. Throughout the year, in a variety of sports ranging from baseball and soccer to golf and skiing, Unified athletes build their bodies, sharpen their skills, challenge the competition and have fun. It's a physical workout that builds friendship, character, leadership, and inspires greatness in all who participate.

The Sea Dogs begin their final regular season series tonight at 7:00 PM at Hadlock Field against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays). The Sea Dogs regular season will conclude on Monday, September 1st with a 1:00 PM game against the Fisher Cats. The Sea Dogs are looking to qualify for post-season play for the fourth consecutive year. Tickets for the playoffs are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500. Should the Sea Dogs qualify for post-season play, games three and four (if necessary) of the first round of the playoffs would be held at Hadlock Field on Friday, September 5th at 7:00 PM and Saturday, September 6th at 6:00 PM.
