Trenton Thunder News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored six times in the third inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 7-2 lead and Justin Dillon delivered four scoreless innings of relief to secure an 8-3 decision over the Thunder on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Right-hander Rony Garcia was tagged with the loss in his return to the Thunder. Garcia labored through a 49-pitch third inning that saw 11 Fisher Cats come to the plate. With a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard, the Thunder saw New Hampshire load the bases with one out on a double, a walk and a hit batsman. Santiago Espinal was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run and Brock Lundquist followed with an RBI single to take the lead. Garcia came back to strike out Riley Adams, but, couldn't stop a two-out rally; surrendering a two-run triple to Christian Williams and an RBI single to Kevin Smith to break the game open.
Garcia's outing ended after retiring Forrest Wall to end the frame. In three innings he allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits and a pair of walks; he struck out three in suffering his fifth loss of the season with the Thunder.
The Thunder worked their way into the lead with two runs off Yennsy Diaz in the top of the third inning. Rashad Crawford walked to begin the inning and moved to third on Hoy Jun Park's base hit to right. Kyle Holder brought a run home with a groundout and Ben Ruta followed with an RBI single for his 36th run batted in on the season.
Holder brought the Thunder a run closer with an RBI double in the fourth inning to make it 7-3, however, the Thunder offense managed just three baserunners over the final 5.1 innings in Saturday's loss. Holder's double extended his on-base streak to ten straight games.
Andrew Bellatti, Will Carter and Trevor Lane held the line after Garcia left the game with five combined hitless innings. The only baserunners allowed by the Thunder bullpen came when Ben Ruta and Brandon Wagner committed errors in the sixth inning allowing Kevin Smith to score a run that made it 8-3.
Rashad Crawford reached three times in the defeat and extended his on-base streak to a season-best 12 games. Kellin Deglan saw a nine-game hit streak and a 12-game on-base streak come to an end.
