Homer-Happy Goats Drop Curve for Second Straight Night

Altoona Curve News Release

HARTFORD, Conn. - Three more home runs for the Hartford Yard Goats aided a 7-3 final over the Altoona Curve on Saturday at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

Following a two-out error by Curve (36-34, 1-2) first basemen Jerrick Suiter in the fourth, the Yard Goats (39-32, 2-2) took a 3-1 lead on a three-run blast over the right field wall by Bret Boswell off starter Pedro Vasquez.

Recently promoted outfielder Chris Sharpe would get those runs back for Altoona and tied the score, 3-3, during the seventh when he hammered his first Double-A homer to left.

However, Hartford responded with three more in the bottom of the inning against reliever Austin Coley (Loss, 0-1). Brian Serven hit Coley's first pitch into the seats in left followed by a Carlos Herrera triple and RBI single from Mandy Melendez.

Sharpe's defense helped Coley end the seventh when he caught a sacrifice fly off Colton Welker's bat, which scored Hartford's third run of the seventh, and threw out Vince Vizcaino trying to advance to third. Sharpe showed off his glove earlier in the game on a diving play to finish off a scoreless second inning by Vasquez and saved a run from scoring.

Vasquez ended the night with six more innings without an earned run allowed, with the three-run homer not hurting his ERA due to the two-out error. He struck out seven batters, including the side in the third frame.

Suiter went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate and scored the game's first run in the second inning after he doubled, moved up to third on a wild pitch and came home on a single to right by Arden Pabst.

Angel German fanned three batters in the eighth inning despite a solo home run allowed to Alan Trejo for the Yard Goats' last score of the evening.

The Curve went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and had the bases loaded and one out in the sixth before left-hander Mitch Horacek (Win, 2-0) slammed the door shut. Altoona also had a prime opportunity in the fifth when the first two runners reached before the next three went down in order.

The loss gives Hartford the series win and breaks up a streak of five straight series wins for the Curve.

Altoona turns to left-hander Sean Brady (2-7, 5.51) to avoid the sweep on Sunday against fellow southpaw Jack Wynkoop (5-7, 3.03) pitching for Hartford.

The Curve are back at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Thursday, June 27 for a five-game, four-day series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies featuring a giveaway or fireworks each day of the homestand.
