Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Portland, ME) - After sweating out last night's 11-8 win in 10 innings, the Fightin Phils got a much needed bounceback start from David Parkinson in Saturday's middle game at Hadlock Field. Looking for his first win of the month, the lefthander had another fine start in Maine after winning his Double-A debut here back in early April. Early offense helped once again, with Mickey Moniak's two extra-base hits and two runs batted in providing a major lift. And in his second game, Alec Bohm joined in on the fun with a double, single, and his second walk of the series as the Fightins waltzed to 4-1 win before a crowd of 7,368.

The first run came across right away for the second straight night, with Bohm booming a one-out double halfway up the Maine Monster in left with one out in the first inning. Two pitches later, Moniak cranked his legue-leading eighth double to dead center, making it 1-0 off Red Sox 40-man member Denyi Reyes. Parkinson quickly countered by striking out Joey Curletta in the bottom of the first despite a single from Jeremy Rivera and a two-out walk to Bobby Dalbec.

In the third, Moniak led off with a double before scoring on Grenny Cumana's single into left center. The lead grew to 3-0 when Arquimedes Gamboa just missed his first home run with a two-out double off the top of the wall in right-center for his 11th run batted in.

Parkinson's last jam came in the home half of the third when he walked number nine hitter Jake Romanski and allowed a single to Jarren Duran to bring up the tying run. Rivera rolled a groundball to third, where Bohm stayed low and fed Jose Gomez up the middle for a double play around the horn. Starting with the twin killing, Parkinson (6-4) retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced to complete six shutout innings with just three hits and two walks allowed.

During Reyes' final inning in the sixth, the Fightins loaded the bases with one out on singles from Bohm and Austin Bossart, plus a walk to Gomez. Moniak cashed in with his second RBI, smacking a liner to right for his 35th run batted in and a 4-0 lead.

Connor Brogdon relieved Parkinson for his first appearance since Tuesday night against Akron, and surrendered a leadoff home run to Curletta to get Portland on the board and make it 4-1. The righthander then struck out two of the next three hitters, and finished off the eighth with three more strikeouts despite a leadoff double from Romanski and a one-out walk to Rivera. The last two of Brogdon's five strikeouts came against C.J. Chatham and Dalbec with the tying run at the plate.

Addison Russ retired the side in order for his 10th save in the ninth, picking up a pair of strikeouts before Randolph made a leaping catch at the right field wall for the final out, taking extra bases away from Brett Netzer. Cumana finished with two singles, and Gomez reached base all four times with his first three-hit game for the Fightin Phils and a walk in the sixth inning.
