Reigning Atlantic League Player of the Year Blake Gailen and Pitcher of the Year Dwayne Pollok highlight a contingent of six Lancaster Barnstormers who have been selected to play in the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Game to be held next Wednesday, July 10 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, MD.

Gailen will be joined by fellow outfielder Jerry Owens and infielders Travis Denker and Olmo Rosario on the Freedom Division squad. Position players were selected on the basis of online fan voting as well as a poll of team officials.

Pollok and closer Jason Urquidez will represent the Barnstormers pitching staff. The two pitchers were chosen by Butch Hobson, who will, as manager of the defending Freedom Division champion Barnstormers, pilot the team.

Gailen struggled for the first 30 games of the season but has regained his MVP form over the last 40 games. He is currently batting .279 with nine homers and 35 RBI and ranks among the league's top five in doubles, walks, stolen bases and runs scored.

Owens was named despite not being on the original ballot. The Lancaster center fielder departed for Mexico May 28, batting .304 at the time. Since his return from Campeche, he has batted .417 to boost his season average to .343, tops among active players. Owens has 13 stolen bases, good for fifth in the league and ranks fourth in on-base percentage.

Denker leads the Barnstormers, and is fourth in the Atlantic League, with 50 RBI. He has belted 12 homers to go along with a .278 batting average. Denker has been guilty of only one error in 42 games at second base.

Rosario carries a .250 average with eight homers and 38 RBI. He has also chipped in with eight stolen bases and has crossed the plate 40 times on the season.

Pollok, scheduled to start on Wednesday evening against Sugar Land, is 8-3 with a 3.72 ERA on the season, following his 14-4 campaign in 2012. The right-hander stands tied for third in the league in wins and tied for eighth in ERA. The ace of the Barnstormers rotation is fourth in strikeouts.

Urquidez has been one of the Atlantic League's elite relievers in 2013. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run and is 15-for-15 in save chances. He has only allowed one hit in his last 10 innings and has not walked a batter in 16 innings since May 19.

"We are happy for these six guys going to the All-Star Game," said Hobson. "They will represent the Barnstormers with talent and class."
