Five Patriots Named to All-Star Game

Bridgewater, NJ - The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that five of their players have been named as 2013 All-Stars and will represent the Freedom Division in the Atlantic League All-Star Game hosted by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday, July 10th at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Third baseman Corey Smith, first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve, outfielder Aharon Eggleston, and relief pitchers Jason Lowey and Jon Hunton have all been selected from Somerset.

Smith finished the first half with a .286 average, 75 hits, 18 doubles, 12 home runs, and 49 RBI. He was named the Atlantic League Player of the Month for May when he hit .333 with 34 hits, nine doubles, seven home runs, and 27 RBI in 27 games played in the month.

Martinez-Esteve has been among the league leaders in hitting for much of the first half. He hit .332 with 72 hits, 12 doubles, and 37 RBI for the first half.

Eggleston had a .313 batting average with a team high 51 runs scored to go with his 61 hits and 26 RBI in the first half.

Lowey, a right-handed set up man, had a team best 1.21 ERA to compliment his 3-0 record and 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched in 25 games.

Hunton, the team's big righty closer, reached the end of the half with a league high 19 saves, a 2.77 ERA, and 20 strikeouts in 26.0 innings pitched in 28 games.
