Bridgeport, Conn. - Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that five members of the team have been selected to participate in the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Game. Pitchers Jeff Fulchino and Kanekoa Texeira will be joined by infielder Daniel Mayora, outfielder Austin Krum, and catcher Yusuf Carter on the Liberty Division squad.
"We are very pleased to have these five players represent the Bluefish during the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Game," says Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. "They have been key members of our team during the first half of the season and are deserving of this accomplishment."
Mayora has impressed during his first tour in the Park City as he ranks second in the Atlantic League in hits (89), fourth in at-bats (272) and doubles (19), and sixth in batting average (.327). He also leads the team in all of those categories while scoring 37 runs, stealing 10 bases and posting a .372 on-base percentage. Krum, in his first season with the ball club, is batting .318 (ninth in the Atlantic League) with two home runs, three triples, 14 doubles, 26 RBI, and 37 runs scored. He has slugged a team-high seven home runs, while recording a .301 batting average with seven doubles, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored, while carrying a .929 OPS.
Fulchino and Texeira have been the top contributors for the Bluefish pitching staff in the bullpen. Fulchino, during his first year in the Atlantic League, owns a 1-0 record with a sparkling 0.90 ERA, 23 punchouts and seven saves over the course of 20 innings of work. Texeira, also during his Atlantic League debut, has posted a 3-2 record with a 3.18 ERA and 16 strikeouts in a team-high 34 innings pitched out of the bullpen.
Mayora, Krum, Carter, Fulchino Texeira will represent the Bluefish on the Liberty Division squad managed by Long Island skipper Kevin Baez at the 2013 All-Star Game, which takes place July 10 at Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, in Waldorf, Maryland.
