Six Blue Crabs Named To All-Star Roster

WALDORF, Md. - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball has released the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Roster it was announced today by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the Atlantic League. The All-Star game is set to take place on Wednesday, July 10 at Regency Furniture Stadium at 7:05 p.m.

Six players from the Blue Crabs roster will represent Southern Maryland in this year's game: outfielder Cyle Hankerd, starting pitcher Daryl Thompson, closer Jim Ed Warden and infielder's Jose Julio-Ruiz, Wladimir Sutil, Renny Osuna will all be featured as part of the Liberty Division lineup.

Playing in the most games out of any Blue Crab this season and sitting atop the standings in the Atlantic League, Hankerd led the league in doubles, extra-base hits and several other categories during the first half in the Liberty Division and has been a fundamental part of Southern Maryland's offense and outfield. Opening Day starter, Daryl Thompson has been solid for the pitching staff in 2013 with a 3.27 ERA and 6-4 record that not only leads the Blue Crabs, but is among the top in the Atlantic League as well. Warden, who assumed closer duties for the Blue Crabs again this season, currently is exercising the team's lowest ERA at 1.09 and has recorded 19 saves this season (tied for first in the League). Also in just their first season on Southern Maryland's roster Julio-Ruiz, Osuna and Sutil have established themselves as everyday players in their positions as well as with the bat. Julio-Ruiz has been among the top two in batting average this season, while Osuna and Sutil have found themselves hitting in the clutch, creating multiple win opportunities.

The Blue Crabs are planning 48-hours of All-Star fun for this year's festivities, which will begin on Tuesday, July 9 when the circus comes to town! On Tuesday, Southern Maryland will host the All-Star Celebration presented by Turkey Hill featuring "Circurious," a 90-minute cirque show, to welcome the Atlantic League to town. With gates opening at 6:30 p.m. fans will have a chance to mingle with the Blue Crabs and the rest of the Atlantic League All-Stars and team mascots in true circus style - set with singers, dancers, contortionists, aerialists, acrobats and carnival fare. The night will also feature a dueling piano performance by Bobby McKey's dueling piano bar, player introductions and coaches speeches as well as an unbelievable fireworks show to cap-off the night.

On the following day, Wednesday, July 10, the fun will pick-up right where Tuesday's celebration left off as Regency Furniture Stadium takes host to the Atlantic League All-Star Game presented by the communities of St. Charles. To start the excitement everyone will be welcomed to join in on the fun for a pre-game block party presented by Backyard Amusements, LLC, which will be open to the public at 4:30 p.m. A clown, face painter, dunk tank, inflatables, games and much more will be provided by Backyard Amusements, LLC, as well as local music and a pre-game youth home run derby competition presented by Civista Health Foundation.

When gates open at 5:30 p.m. fans can expect giveaways, several national performers, guest comedians, a silent jersey auction and much more. To conclude the event, the Blue Crabs will also host the official after party of the All-Star Game complete with "The Sam Grow Band" and another fireworks extravaganza and laser lights show.

The 48-hours of fun will feature something for the whole family, whatever age they may be. Tickets are still available for both events, but going extremely fast.
