Thompson's Gem Propels Patriots to 8-1 Victory

Central Islip, NY - The Somerset Patriots (1-1, 46-25) defeated the Long Island Ducks (1-1, 31-41) 8-1 Wednesday night from Bethpage Ballpark in front of 6,796 fans. Brad Thompson threw a complete game gem that propelled the Patriots to victory as he scattered just five hits in the winning effort.

In the top of the first inning Somerset took an early 1-0 lead on first baseman Jake Fox's RBI single to left field.

Third baseman Corey Smith roped a RBI double in the top of the third inning to expand Somerset's lead to 2-0.

Left fielder Aharon Eggleston slapped a RBI double in the top of the fourth inning as Somerset increased their advantage to 3-0.

The Patriots tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning as right fielder Cory Aldridge blooped a RBI single to center field to make the contest 4-0.

Somerset plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 8-0. Fox clubbed a RBI double and Eggleston hit a RBI single while two additional runs came across via a wild pitch by Eric Threets and a fielding error by right fielder Adam Bailey.

The Ducks scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on center fielder Kraig Binick's solo home run (1) to left field making the match 8-1 which would be the final.

Thompson (5-3) earned his first win since June 5th. Bill Murphy (0-10) suffered the loss logging six innings while surrendering four runs and four walks.
