York Revolution News Release
York, Pa. - The Atlantic League has announced its selections for the 2013 Atlantic League All-Star Game, and five members of the York Revolution have been selected to participate for the Freedom Division team. Leadoff hitter Eric Patterson, second baseman Andres Perez, catcher Salvador Paniagua, reliever Michael Wuertz, and starting pitcher Chris Cody have all been selected to represent the Revolution.
Patterson has been a consistent on-base threat at the top of the York lineup, leading the league with 52 runs scored in only 57 games played. He's also been the league's top source of power for any leadoff hitter, as he is tied for fourth in the league with 132 total bases, second in extra-base hits with 33, fourth in slugging percentage at .548, and tied for fourth in home runs with 13, a Revs record for a season's first half. Patterson has already tied a Revs season record by leading off a game with a home run three times, and tied a club record with a home run in four consecutive games, June 5-9, when he was named the Atlantic League's Player of the Week. He has also proved to be a versatile member of Mark Mason's team, having started games in right field, left field, at second base, and at shortstop.
Perez is heading to his second All-Star Game in as many years. Ranking eighth in the league with a .319 batting average, Perez has been at the top of the league in total hits for most of the first half, currently ranking third with 87 hits. Perez has enjoyed three hitting streak of nine games or longer, and hit safely in 40 of 45 games at one point.
Paniagua has been the league's top offensive catcher, batting .300 with nine home runs. The third-year Revs backstop started 55 of the team's 70 games in the first half. Paniagua got off to a torrid start, leading the league in batting with a .383 average through May 15, and hit safely in 22 of 23 games between May 28 and June 26, with a pair of 11-game streaks.
Wuertz has been one of the league's most dominant relievers, owning a 3-1 record with a 2.52 ERA and a pair of saves through 27 appearances. He has allowed just 16 hits and 11 walks through 25.0 innings while striking out 33, and has held opponents to a .184 average. The eight-year Major League veteran went 16 consecutive appearances without allowing a run, May 15-June 21.
Cody has been the ace of the staff for the Revs, owning an 8-4 record and a 3.27 ERA which is the league's third-lowest through 14 starts. His eight wins tied a Revs first half record and are one off the league-lead, while the lefty leads the league with 70 strikeouts. His three complete games are tied for the league's most, and include an 11-strikeout performance against Long Island on June 2, and a four-hit shutout in Camden on June 8, as he went the distance in back-to-back starts, part of a four-game winning streak for the third-year Revs starter.
All-Star selections are based on a combination of fan, media, and team voting.
