Parra Goes The Distance For Third Victory Of The Season

(Bridgeport, CT- September 6, 2017) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (30-30, 71-59) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (29-30, 59-70) 3-2 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday evening in an official game that was concluded after just five innings of play due to rain. The Bluefish have now won five consecutive games overall, matching their largest win streak of the season that was last set between June 29th and July 3rd.

Bridgeport starting pitcher Manny Parra (3-3) went the distance for the first time this season en route to the victory, allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings pitched, walking four and striking out three while tossing a wild pitch. Sugar Land starting pitcher Jake Hale (10-6) was tagged with the complete-game loss, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on four hits in five innings of work, walking three, striking out four and hitting a batter.

Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead versus Hale in the bottom half of the third inning when 2017 Liberty Division All-Star Luis Hernandez plated Angelys Nina with an RBI base knock after Nina reached by way of a free pass with one man out. Sugar Land went ahead 2-1 against Parra in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Wilfredo Rodriguez and a run-scoring single off the bat of Caleb Ramsey. The 'Fish tied the game at two in the home half of the frame when Gustavo Molina drove in Jose Cuevas with a clutch two-out RBI single with Cuevas beginning the rally with a leadoff walk. Cuevas was it once again in the bottom of the fifth when he enabled 2017 Liberty Division All-Star D'Arby Myers to score what proved to be the winning run on a double that went into the left field corner as Bridgeport came away with their second consecutive one-run victory over the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Champions. Hernandez, Myers, Cuevas, and Molina each had one hit for the Bluefish on the night.
