Silvertips Pull away in Third

January 10, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

KELOWNA, British Columbia - Bryce Kindopp reached the 20-goal plateau for the second consecutive season and the Everett Silvertips broke a tied game in the third period to defeat the Kelowna Rockets, 4-2 for their 17th win in 20 games before 5,025 fans at Prospera Place on Wednesday in WHL action.

The Tips haven't lost a game in regulation to Kelowna since the 2014-15 season: a string improving to 11-0-2-1 in the last 14 meetings. The victory moved them to within five points of the top record in the entire league after the Prince Albert Raiders lost, 4-1 to the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds.

UP NEXT: The Tips return home on Friday, at 7:35pm meeting against the Tri-City Americans in downtown Everett (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live). Ticket and beverage combos are on sale for as low as $24 for Hockey Happy Hour, at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.

Lassi Thomson's point shot put Kelowna up 1-0 at 2:57 of the first period, and Dustin Wolf kept the Tips within reach on a breakaway save on Connor Bruggen-Cate. The Silvertips took advantage when Bryce Kindopp took Martin Fasko-Rudas' chip off the boards in stride, and uncorked a snap shot past James Porter from the left circle for a 1-1 tie at 19:49.

Dewar stashed a pinpoint, backdoor feed from Wyatte Wylie at the right post for a power play goal at 9:44 of the second period for a 2-1 lead, but Thomson and Kelowna answered on his second goal of the game with 1.9 seconds left when his bid from the blueline bounced twice off traffic and to the back of the net.

The Tips executed similarly and restored the lead with 8:04 left in regulation, when Kindopp successfully deflected Gianni Fairbrother's point shot past Porter for his second goal for a 3-2 lead.

Wolf turned in a highlight reel, diving save on Kyle Topping with two minutes left in regulation, and Fairbrother put the game away on an empty netter from center ice with 11 seconds left.

Wolf made 22 saves for his league leading 28th win of the season, while Porter was awarded first star honors with a 40-save losing effort.
