Siddall Assigned to Gwinnett from AHL Chicago

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Matt Siddall has been reassigned to Gwinnett from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League by the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers. In separate transactions, the Gladaitors have traded defenseman Ryan Mahrle to the Bakersfield Condors in exchange for future considerations. Also, Gwinnett dealt rookie forward Jeff Prough to the Trenton Titans for future consideration.

Siddall made his professional debut in six games with the Wolves this season, recording four penalty minutes. Last year, the 24-year-old forward completed his fourth season with Northern Michigan University (CCHA), netting a career-high 18 goals, 36 points and 116 penalty minutes in 41 games during his senior campaign. Overall, the North Vancouver, British Columbia, native amassed 32 goals, 44 assists, 76 points and 357 penalty minutes in 147 outings during his four-year collegiate career.

He was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 9th round, #270 overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He attended the Atlanta Thrashers Prospect development camp from July 8th through July 13th. In addition, he skated with the Thrashers in the Traverse City Prospect Evaluation Tournament from Sept. 13th through 17th.

Mahrle skated in all 72 games for the Gladiators during his rookie campaign last year. He has notched a goal and 3 assists for 4 points in 8 games this season with Gwinnett.

In his first professional season, Prough has appeared in 6 games, posting 2 goals for Gwinnett. He had his first professional goal with Gwinnett in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Augusta Lynx on October 21st.

The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Friday, November 14th as they host the Charlotte Checkers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
